Call for New Cases

The Academy is soliciting case studies in electrodiagnosis, musculoskeletal medicine, pain, spinal cord injury, or stroke for the Case Study Program. Cases that are accepted give individuals an excellent opportunity to share relevant information within the field of PM&R and to list authorship credit in their curriculum vitae (under “Electronic Publications”).

Interested individuals should base their submissions on an actual case whenever possible. The case should demonstrate the application of current research and practice as well as new interventions or techniques. Individuals are advised to review current case studies for examples of what is expected of the final published product.

Cases submitted should not highlight non-FDA approved medical interventions (e.g., unapproved medications, equipment). However, reference may be made to a non-approved medical intervention if scientifically relevant and an appropriate disclaimer is attached.

Instructions for Submitting a Case

In a Word or WordPerfect format, submit the following via e-mail attachment to Allison Pietrzak at apietrzak@aapmr.org:

Contact Information
  • Author
  • Full name
  • Title*
  • Affiliation
  • Telephone number
  • Fax number
  • E-mail address

*Please note: Cases submitted by a resident must be
co-authored with an attending physician.

Case Information
  • Subspecialty the case represents
  • Presenting symptom(s)
  • Case-specific diagnosis
  • Three learning objectives
  • Estimated level of difficulty
  • A brief description of the case including information on interventions to be highlighted.

Once received, the case will be forwarded to the relevant subspecialty editor for review and consideration. While every effort will be made to adapt these cases to the requirements of the CME Online Program, not all cases submitted will be used.

If your case is accepted, you will be contacted and the case forwarded to an associate editor. You and the associate editor will use the specified guidelines and timelines to finalize the case composition prior to online publication.

The Academy looks forward to receiving submissions and thanks you in advance for your interest.

Questions or comments about case submissions should be directed to Allison Pietrzak at the Academy national office by e-mail apietrzak@aapmr.org, or phone: (312) 464-9700.
