The AAPM&R Self-Assessment Examination for Residents (SAE-R) is administered annually to residents from nearly 90 PM&R residency training programs, representing the United States (including Puerto Rico), Canada, and the Philippines.

SAE-R Abridged Exam Archive

Annually, residents across the country participate in the SAE-R. Although the exam booklets are collected at the conclusion of the test, residents can access the interactive, abridged version here! 

The abridged version of the SAE-R has approximately 100 questions. References to each question are available.

The SAE-R is not designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and does not fulfill the requirement for Part II of Maintenance of Certification (MOC) set forth by the American Board of PM&R (Lifelong Learning and Self Assessment).

Beginning with the 2007 exam, the abridged SAE-R exams are available in an online interactive format with additional access to versions in PDF file format.  The 2001-2006 abridged exams are available for download in PDF file format only.

Past SAE-R Score Report Order Form

AAPM&R sends the current year’s score reports to Residency Program Directors who participated in the SAE-R in April. Program Directors are responsible for sharing individual resident score results. If you would like to purchase an Individual Resident Score Report or a Residency Program Score Report from a past SAE-R exam, please use the order form located below.

Please note the following:

• 2010 Individual Resident Score Reports and Residency Program Score Reports will be available in April.
• The Academy cannot provide copies of SAE-R reports before 2005.
• Because of the confidential nature of residents’ SAE-R scores, programs may only receive copies of their overall program reports—not individual residents.
