Self-Directed Physiatric Education Program (Study Guides)

The Self-Directed Physiatric Education Program Study Guide issues are planned and produced in accordance with the ACCME Essentials for developing continuing medical education.

Study Guide issues provide an in-depth review of the latest information on a variety of PM&R-specific topics. Designed for practicing physicians as well as residents in PM&R, each supplement issue traditionally covers two important rehabilitation topics. Beginning in 2009, the AAPM&R Study Guide is delivered to members with the March issue of the Academy’s journal, PM&R. Prior to that time, the Academy’s Study Guide issues were published as supplements to the Archives of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. The topic of the 2010 Study Guide issue Pediatric Rehabilitation, was published inside the March 2010 issue of the purple journal, PM&R. The 2010 Theme Issue published as the May 2010 issue of PM&R was devoted to the cross-cutting topic Fatigue.

Each Study Guide or Theme Issue topic has a corresponding self-assessment exam for physicians (SAE-P). By completing each SAE-P, a practitioner is not only able to assess his or her knowledge on the topic but is also able to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ while meeting the Part II Self Assessment requirement of Maintenance of Certification® (MOC). Self-assessment exams are valuable tools that help learners identify their knowledge gaps and provide learning through comprehensive commentary. References included in the exam supply the learner with additional resources. Click here to complete an SAE-P and claim CME credit.
