2011 AAPM&R Annual Assembly Plenary Session
The Science of Sport Concussion: Translating Data Collection into Concussion Prevention and Improved Management

This presentation is complementary and is only available to members.

This lecture provided the latest updates on an evidence-based approach to sport concussion prevention and management, and will provide clinicians with detailed information on managing this challenging injury. This session took place on November 18, 2011 with Keynote Speaker Kevin M. Guskiewicz, PhD, ATC and Moderator Scott Laker, MD.

After watching this presentation, participants will be able to: 1) Describe the epidemiology of sport-related concussion; 2) Outline injury prevention strategies; 3) Employ a systematic approach for use of objective concussion assessment tools (helmets, mouthguards, headgear) for managing concussion; 4) Identify, explain, and detect risk of late-life consequences, such as mild cognitive impairment and depression, following repetitive concussions.
